Sowing and Reaping

Farming Tools

One day a few weeks ago, I was out running errands and a song came on the radio.  Id never heard before, but the lyrics beckoned my ears, then my heart. I couldn’t help but sing along after hearing the words: ‘I don’t want to miss one word you speak, cause everything you say is life to me.’  I didn’t catch the name of the song or the artist, but my spirit was alerted to the Spirit of God, who was indeed calling me. I believe He wanted me to hear and sing these words with my tongue as an invitation to Him. Once asked in, He spoke to my heart with clarity.  God wants to be invited into our everyday lives, but sometimes we get so wrapped up in these lives, that we forget Him. In turn he nudges us a bit so that we will request His presence.

As a result of this encounter, He spoke to me about a subject I’ve never cared to learn: Farming! I’ve been told that you’ reap what you sow’ ever since I was a kid, but now I’m starting to really understand it’s implications. In Galatians 6:7, it reads: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” Then in Mark 4, Jesus teaches of sowing seed, the good and bad types of ground used in planting, and of course reaping.

He likens the kingdom of God to farming.

Mark 4:30-32 And He said, With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use to illustrate and explain it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all seeds upon the earth; Yet after it is sown, it grows up and becomes the greatest of all garden herbs and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air are able to make nests and dwell in its shade.

And His Word is the Seed

Mark 4: 3 “Listen! A sower went out to sow seed; 4 and as he was sowing, some seed fell by the road, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Other seed fell on rocks where there was not much soil; and immediately a plant sprang up [a]because the soil had no depth.6 And when the sun came up, the plant was scorched; and because it had no root, it dried up and withered away. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no grain.8 And other seed fell into good soil, and as the plants grew and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundred times [as much as had been sown].” 9 And He said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear and heed My words.”

Mark 4:14 The sower sows the word [of God, the good news regarding the way of salvation]. 15 These [in the first group] are the ones along the road where the word is sown; but when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them. 16 In a similar way these [in the second group] are the ones on whom seed was sown on rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy [but accept it only superficially]; 17 and they have no real root in themselves, so they endure only for a little while; then, when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately they [are offended and displeased at being associated with Me and] stumble and fall away.18 And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word, 19 but the worries and cares of the world [the distractions of this age with its worldly pleasures], and the deceitfulness [and the false security or glamour] of wealth [or fame], and the passionate desires for all the other things creep in and choke out the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20 And those[in the last group] are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word [of God, the good news regarding the way of salvation] and accept it and bear fruit—thirty, sixty, and a hundred times as much [as was sown].”

Our Hearts are equivalent to the soil Jesus speaks of in this parable, and we are guaranteed to produce a harvest if we would be as ‘good ground’ and simply receive the seed of His word as real!

A farmer never plants a seed and thinks that it will not produce a harvest. In the same way, we are assured by Jesus that if we sow the word of God in our hearts, then we will produce a crop. We sow into our hearts through our eyes, ears, and mouth. They each serve as a gateway. Seeing His word, hearing His word, and speaking His word. But it’s not planting just any seeds, it’s planting with purpose. Being specific!

If you have a healing or health need, then you plant a healing seed (scripture). If you have financial needs, then you plant financial seed(scriptures). Just as a farmer plants a tomato seed to receive a tomato crop, we too have to sow seed(scriptures) that will produce the harvest that we need.

I then asked Jesus what seed I should sow for this season of my life? And when I received my answer. I immediately went online and searched scriptures for my specific need. Each day I read, listen, and speak His word. Just as a farmer tends to his crop, I tend to mine. I expect a harvest, so I’ll be sure to update as soon as it manifests.

Please join me in your own farming adventure with God

Prove Him and His word! Ask Him what seed you should sow, and then find those scriptures. Meditate on them with your eyes, your mouth, and your ears. Lets soak up the rays of the Son and produce a beautiful and bountiful harvest!

Galatians 6:9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

I eventually found the name and artist of the song through my husband. He’d heard it over the radio too! I am sharing this little gem with you in hopes that it will inspire your spirit as it did mine.  Till next time, May Gods peace surround and comfort you😘.

Song Title: I'm Listening
Artist: Chris McClarney

 Lyrics
When You speak, confusion fades
Just a word and suddenly I'm not afraid
'Cause You speak and freedom reigns
There is hope in every single word You say
I don't wanna miss one word You speak
'Cause everything You say is life to me
I don't wanna miss one word You speak
Quiet my heart, I'm listening
When sorrows roar and troubles rage
You whisper peace when I don't have the words to say
I won't lose hope when storms won't break
You keep Your word, oh and Your promises will keep me safe
I don't wanna miss one word You speak
'Cause everything You say is life to me
I don't wanna miss one word You speak
So quiet my heart, I'm listening
Your ways are higher
You know just what I need
I trust You, Jesus
You see what I cannot see
Your ways are higher
You know just what I need
I trust You, Jesus
You see what I cannot see
Your ways are higher
You know just what I need
I trust You, Jesus
You see what I cannot see
Your ways are higher
You know just what I need
I trust You, Jesus
You see what I cannot see
I don't wanna miss one word You speak
'Cause everything You say is life to me
I don't wanna miss one word You speak
So quiet my heart, I'm listening
I don't wanna miss one word You speak
'Cause everything You say is life to me
I don't wanna miss one word You speak
So quiet my heart, I'm listening
I don't wanna miss one word You speak
'Cause everything You say is life to me
I don't wanna miss one word You speak
So quiet my heart, I'm listening

Prayer Of Salvation

Dear Father,

You love me so much that you have opened my eyes to the truth. You gave your only begotten Son to die for my sins and the sins of the world. Whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

Today I repent of my sins and I openly accept your free gift of salvation through Christ Jesus. I believe and confess that Jesus is Lord and I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. I ask you to come live within me, I am yours. Amen
