Thankful Praise

Thankful Praise

“It is a good and delightful thing to give thanks to the Lord” Psalms 92:1 Amp

Every day is a great opportunity to give thanks to the Lord. The holiday season however, seems to bring our awareness of thankfulness to the forefront of our mind. As we prepare to gather with family & friends we tend to be more grateful and thankful, but we can and should be like this everyday.

Praise and thankfulness go hand in hand and the bible declares that God inhabits the praise of His people Psalm 22:3 ASV. This simply means that He lives in our praise. In Revelations 4:8 NIV it states that all day & night  heavenly beings cry out : “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.”

He delights in being thanked, worshiped, and praised! Wouldn’t you? If you created something beautifully intricate and held it  together with all power would you not want it to revere you? I know I would!

So to kick off this season and lifetime of thankfulness & praise to our Heavenly Father, I’ve gathered a list of 10 scriptures that we can meditate on throughout the year that highlight His character and disposition. These will help us to understand Him more closely while creating in us a new desire to praise & thank Him all the time.

God’s Character

  1. The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me], I shall not want. – Psalm 23:1
  2. O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good; How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who takes refuge in Him. – Psalm 34:8
  3. The one who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. [He is the originator of love, and it is an enduring attribute of His nature.] – 1 John 4:8
  4. Good and upright is the Lord- Psalms 25:8a
  5. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. – Hebrews 13:8
  6. For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. – Malachi 3:6
  7. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you,  not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. – 2 Peter 3:9
  8. This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. – 1 John 1:5
  9. Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable. – Isaiah 40:28
  10. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. – James 1:17

I’ve also made a short list of the things I am most thankful for. Prayerfully it helps you to begin a list of your own:

My {Short} Thankful List

  • I am thankful for a relationship with God through Jesus Christ
  • I am thankful for my healthy family
  • I am very thankful that I wake up and operate with the mind of Christ daily
  • I am thankful for my good health and strength
  • I am thankful that I finally understand and am walking in my purpose

May you realize and fully accept God’s blessings and peace upon you today and forevermore.

Love all of these scriptures and how they remind us of God’s character! How could we not praise Him when we think about that?

Prayer Of Salvation

Dear Father,

You love me so much that you have opened my eyes to the truth. You gave your only begotten Son to die for my sins and the sins of the world. Whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

Today I repent of my sins and I openly accept your free gift of salvation through Christ Jesus. I believe and confess that Jesus is Lord and I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. I ask you to come live within me, I am yours. Amen
