God Dependent-‘Baby Jonathan’
Recently I gave birth to our 4th son ‘Baby Jonathan’. Honestly I’d have to admit that this pregnancy was the easiest of them all. When we found out we were pregnant again, it was quite a surprise. It had been 8 years since we had our last child, and we had just began a new chapter in our lives. My husband accepted the call of Jesus to go out and spread the Gospel and we were in a new environment and totally dependent upon God for everything! No kidding… EVERYTHING! From food and clothing to housing, transportation and money EVERYTHING we needed depended on God giving it to us. So when we learned that our new addition was coming, it was very much a shocker!
My personal need to depend upon God increased tremendously (as if I already didn’t need Him..lol). I now had to think about carrying another child in a brand new living environment.
My first appointment with the doctor was different from the others in the reality that I was no longer of “low risk childbearing” age. Being that I have aged,(beautifull ) the doc informed me that I was now “high risk”. She went on to explain that women over 35 have a higher risk of pregnancy complications than younger women. She also wanted me to see a ‘Specialist’ that would go over the risks with me. My husband and I discussed the situation and we agreed that we would consult God on the matter. So we, with the help of the Holy Spirit found scriptures to meditate on that dealt with the issues we were facing.
First we remembered that when God blessed Abraham and Sarah with Isaac they were well beyond child bearing years: “Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born.Sarah said, “God has made me laugh; all who hear [about our good news] will laugh with me.”And she said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have given birth to a son by him in his old age.” – Genesis 21:5-7 Amplified.
Then the Holy Spirit led us to Psalm127:3 Amplified “Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the Lord, The fruit of the womb a reward.”
And Psalm 139:13-14;For You formed my innermost parts; You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb.I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.
We also studied what the prophet Jeremiah said; “Thus says the Lord, “Cursed is the man who trusts in and relies on mankind, Making [weak, faulty human] flesh his strength, And whose mind and heart turn away from the Lord .“For he will be like a shrub in the [parched] desert; And shall not see prosperity when it comes, But shall live in the rocky places of the wilderness, In an uninhabited salt land.“Blessed [with spiritual security] is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord And whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord” Jeremiah 17;5-7 Amplified
Right then and there we knew we couldn’t go to any specialist and take in the negative words and thoughts that would be placed in front of us. We had to put our complete trust in God.
Some may argue that we were negligent by not seeking the advice of a “professional” in this matter but how many times have the “professionals” gotten it wrong? How many men have the “professionals” actually created? And who am I to take the word of man over the Word of God?
In Romans 12:2 it says
“And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].
This verse basically tells us to “brainwash” our mind with the Word of God constantly.
No longer could I think and act like I used to, nor could I act or think like the world. Since I wanted to receive the promises of God that He already predestined for me (Ephesians 1:3-5) I had to think, act, and speak like He does.
We were determined to believe that God had blessed us with our baby and that the child would be healthy. According to scripture every good and perfect gift comes from above (James 1;17) so we had to trust that God’s gift to us was just that….Good & Perfect! We prayed and meditated on those scriptures during the entire pregnancy.
Each time the enemy presented a lie to us, we would remind God of His Word. There were plenty of opportunities to doubt, but with His strength we made it through. Today we have our sweet baby Jonathan who was born healthy(8 lbs 13 oz), happy(this kid loves to smile), and whole(nothing missing, all body parts are intact and fully functional)! There were no complications during delivery and he came out rather quickly( 7 hr labor)! All praise and glory to God for keeping His promise and blessing us with our “great reward”. As Peter stated in Acts 10:33-35 “Most certainly I understand now that God is not one to show partiality [to people as though Gentiles were excluded from God’s blessing],but in every nation the person who fears God and does what is right [by seeking Him] is acceptable and welcomed by Him.” Amplified. I attest that this is true. He did it for me and He’ll do it for you too!!
